Continuing Education- Evening Dante Course on Purgatorio

EVENT DESCRIPTION:
Join in – and take the greatest poetic, philosophical and theological journey of all time! Ten consecutive Tuesdays, two-hour sessions devoted to the reading and explication of Dante’s immortal poem. The instructor for the Inferno and Purgatorio courses will be Gerald Malsbary, PhD, Director of the Latin and Greek program at the I.I.C. and Associate Professor in Classics and Philosophy at St. Charles Borromeo Seminary since 1991. The style of teaching will combine lecture with discussion and selected reading-aloud. Historical, theological, philosophical and mythological references will be clarified, and an open, threaded discussion will be conducted on the relevance and meaning of Dante’s work. We will cover three or four cantos per session. Only requirement is keeping up with the reading and a willingness to engage in discussions and ask questions. Costs: $350 for ten weeks of Dante’s Inferno. This fee covers: tuition; textbooks; instructional aids. Dates: February 9, 2007 through April 10, 2007. Time: 7:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. Fifteen minute refreshment break included. The instructor for the Paradiso course will be Edward Furton, PhD, Ethicist and Chief Editor at the National Catholic Bioethics Center, and an experienced college instructor in philosophy and the liberal arts.)
